Album review

2008 release of the incredible debut from Philly based, A Sunny Day in Glasgow who have caused a minor stir in the US on blogs and websites (8/10 on pitchfork)as they filter over to the UK. The band uses mandolins, samplers, banjos, noise, lots of cuttin' and pastin' with all of the normal band instruments, plus lush female vocals and dance-y rhythms to make dreamy Pop music. The album succeeds in marrying Cocteau Twin's otherworldliness, the best aspects of Aphex Twin, and the jangle of "strawberry wine" era My Bloody Valentine to create a sublime Pop music for fans of early 90's creation records, Sonic Cathedral, Deerhunter, Cocteaus, Slowdive, Seefeel, My Bloody Valentine.

A Sunny Day in Glasgow began as a collaboration between friends Ben Daniels and Ever Nalens, both of whom had recently returned to Philadelphia after several years in the UK. The band name came from Nalens, who had been living in Glasgow, and Daniels kept it after Nalens left the project. In 2006, Daniels asked his twin sisters, Robin and Lauren...
