Album review

13 years since their formation, hard-hitting Welsh metal heroes Lostprophets return with their fourth studio album, The Betrayed. The sextet's first two albums, 2000's 'The Fake Sound Of Progress' and 2004's 'Start Something', won them national acclaim, before third release, 'Liberation Transmission', saw the band win two Kerrang! awards. This fine work is continued on their latest offering, The Betrayed, which is a much darker, grittier long player. As with previous releases, instrumental interludes frequently contribute to the listening experience, with singles 'It's Not The End Of The World But I Can See It From Here' and 'Where We Belong' among the highlights. Although at times album number four could be described as lyrically aggressive in tone, the big hooks that have made the band a worldwide sensation very much remain - having road tested these songs live since 2007, there is an evident sense of confidence on display throughout. Intelligent, assured and littered with festival-sized moments of heavy metal genius, The Betrayed is another jaw-dropping smash from one of the most innovative rock bands of recent years.
